The Lisu Trail (5 Days)

Putao:

Situate 1499 feet above sea and located far north of Myanmar in Kachin State, descendent from eastern Himalayan region. Lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. Local tribal communities in Putao region are of Hkamti Shan, Doolin Jimphaw (Kachin), and white color Rawan, Myanmar’s gypsy Lisu, Pigmy Tarong, hunting community of Htalu and Tibetan who lives in the far north in the Himalayas. Putao town and fort was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz along with Fort which later known as Fort Hertz. Later a Missionary basing the Rawan and Lisu tribe as initial and introduce Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Orange and King Mandarin plus America Lime were introduced.  

Day 01 :   Arrival,Putao


Upon arrival at Putao airport we will be met by Putao Trekking House’s representative and transferred to our guest house. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. Putao town and fort was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz along with Fort which later known as Fort Hertz. Later a Missionary was travel from the south via Yunnan by ABM, leaded by Rev J.R Morse and leader of Assembly of God Rev J.C Morrison basing the Rawan and Lisu tribe as initial. Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Orange and King Mandarin plus Maerica Lime were introduced by missionary from USA. By Father Robert Moss. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge. 

Day 02  :   Putao – Namtunkoo

Early in the morning we visit Putao market often busy with local ethnic tribes. Return to hotel, breakfast and we transfer to a suburb village of Par Inn, where we set off our today destination at Namtunkoo Lisu village, situates west of Putao on the cross road to Mt. Lancrumadin (12 mile, approx. 5 hour). At first we walk through cultivation field passing some small villages and farm land. After about one hour walking on the flat land we will find ourselves immediately in wildness with lush tropical evergreen forests. About 3 hours trek through the terrain uphill we reach 2250 feet shoulder of Namhtun mountain range from where the path gently descends all the way. In a clear day we see blazing 11530 feet high Lancrumadin Mountain towards Indian border in the far west. We have lunch stop and continue trek another one more hour through the farm land to the village. Here we check in at our guest house and visit Namhtun creek, right in front of us for a fresh up. Later we explore the village and have social interact with friendly people. Dinner and overnight at Namhtun Guest House.

Day 03   :  Namtunkoo Mulashidi – Putao

Breakfast and visit around the village for social and cultural inter-action. We bit good bye to the locals and walk about 45 minutes through the field along Namhtun creek crossing the creek a couple of time. Once we get in to the wildness the terrain immediate become deep up which leads up to 2295 feet. We trek about two hours through strenuous jungle trail in lush forest filled with bamboo grove. The trek then gradually descends through farm land from where we enjoy a spectacular view of the Putao plain spiral through snake like crawling Mula creek. About two more hour easy trek we finally arrive at Mulashidi village where we enjoy beautiful surrounding often back drop with snow capped mountains in distance. Later we join our jeep and return back to Putao. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.

Day 04 :   Putao – Machanbaw – Fairy Island – Machanbaw – Putao

 

Breakfast and excursion by jeep to Machanbaw (14 mile, one hour). Machanbaw is a small administrative town ex-Putao with beautifully set up colonial style. We get off at Naungkhine village from where we walk through a suspension bridge span across Malikha River to Machanbaw. Excursion in town includes a small market. Here we board a local fishermen boat for a riverine journey down south to so-called Fairy Island through beautiful wilderness surrounding having high reef with lush tropical forests. We have our lunch at the sand bank and relax through the afternoon. Later we return up stream by boat to Naungkhine jetty where we our driver who will then take us back to Putao and check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.

Day 05  :   Departure


Breakfast and perhaps a second visit to Putao market and further visit in and around Putao with suggestion by our guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for your onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience.

Remark:

Although costing is based on minimum one person, Myanmar Hill Lodges reserves the right to combine to make decent group size due to shortage of trek leaders and support staff.
