Elephant Camp Kalaw


 

“Program A (A day trip to Elephants’ home)”

  • Come straight to Magway elephant camp.

 

  • Welcome by our team and inform about project (necessary information about camp will be given by English speaking staff). As well as safety instructions will be given before interacting with elephants.

 

  • Walk (5-­‐7mins) to elephant village and see the life of mahouts with their families.

 

  • Time to introduce the elephants and feed them (with daily prepared food). Then team will lead you go to the river where elephant bath and you can join for washing elephants like your owned pet.

 

  • Riding is not our focus. We will let you be in touch with our elephants as Mahouts during the washing time.

 

  • Opportunity to help in our forest recovery project. You are welcome to join us by planting one regional tree for forest recovery efforts. (GHV team will assist for planting program).

 

  • Depends on different seasons, we do not operate planting trees the whole year. But we welcome you to help in our seedling process for forest recovery program.

 

  • Lunch will be served at the main camp.

 

  • From the main camp, you can visit to our recycle paper project from elephant poo, and further learning elephant study with Skeleton.

 

  • You may able to have more information about elephants and forest (from our speakers). Then, you may explore around the forest area, opportunity to see butterflies, birds and orchids in our conservation area, if clients want to spend longer time in the nature. (on your owned exploration, if time permit).

 

  • Drive back to your destination.

 

 

Note:

 

Program A is the one you can adjust the timing of elephant schedule and able to join from different routings, by car or by flight.., depends on your arrival.

 

For Elephant skeleton (further study for veterinary interest)

Recycle product of GHV, from Elephant poo (paper making experience)

If time allow, visitors can stay longer time with elephants and learn more about their nature.

 

“Program B (Short trek & elephant care activities)”

The program is subject to weather and we are not able to operate in monsoon.

Visitors are recommended to arrive at trek point not later than 10 AM.

  • Meet at Wet Pyu Ye junction, where our trek guides are waiting.

 

  • Walk to the camp, Chance to see butterflies, birds, and orchids along the trek.

 

  • Arrived to our elephant village and have brief information about the project (as well as safety instructions)

 

  • Wash and feed the elephants with our daily program.

Notes:

 

  • In order to sustain our environment, we will not provide plastic water bottles anymore and we provide refilled stations at camp.

 

  • We would appreciate all visitors understand that we are not focus on demonstration, riding and circus things with our old aged and retired timber elephants. GHV stand for elephant care with responsible programs.

 

  • Temperature in summer time is very hot and we do not let our elephants be in the heat for washing in the river, as it is a part of our elephant activities with clients. (Not allow for elephant washing in summer, during 12:00 to 15:00 pm).

 

  • Depends on the late arrivals, clients are requested to wait at the main camp or spend the time at elephant village by joining us to feed and care with our daily schedule. (OR) clients are requested to arrive around 9:00 to 10:00 am for early elephant activities.

 

  • However we are trying to be flexible with both side of elephants and visitors.

 

  • Program for treks are subject to weather. (For program B).

 

  • Program B is in jungle trek and it is 4.5 kilometers long from the starting trek point to our camp. Visitors have to pass the streams for 3 times and need to prepare for getting wet on your feet sometimes.

 

  • Client’s physical condition is considerable! There will be in a gap of different sea level (between Kalaw and Elephant camp).

 

  • In order to conserve the nature, we have capacity control for daily number of visitors. Reservation is necessary to fix our schedules for elephant team.

 

  • Recommend bringing insect repellents. However, Anti-­‐malaria precautions have been taken around our camp area.

 

  • Clients are recommended to wear long pants, long sleeved cotton shirts and good walking shoes. Sunscreen is also suggested. (For the trek program)

 

  • All safety precautions with the elephants have been taken. However, we do request you to follow the detailed instructions of our respective escorts who accompany during your visit.

 

  • Requested to inform us in advance, if clients are not able to walk (up and down between main camp and elephant village).

 

  • Dietary requirement for some clients are necessary to inform one day in advance. (Make a note that we don’t have any choice of Menu in last minute)

 

  • Due to the daily schedule of elephants and the timing of visitors by different arrivals, we operate planting program in the late afternoon at 3 to 3:30 pm by participating with our team. Visitors are requested to wait for our timing of schedule and early departure from elephant camps will not able to join for planting programs.

 

  • Parents of young children are requested to take safety responsibilities for their children during interaction with elephants; however GHV staffs will give necessary safety instructions before interaction.
