Cultural Excursion

Putao:

A small frontier town, far north in Kachin State sharing border with China, Tibet and India. Situate 1499 feet above sea, lies in a flat valley, a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. The richness in biodiversity of this region presents unparalleled opportunities in the field of tribal, zoology, botany, forestry, ecology as well as hardy eco-tourists that prefer the challenge of a testing back-packing trip in the mountain fastness of Myanmar. Putao town and fort was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz along with Fort which later known as Fort Hertz. Later a Missionary was travel from the south via Yunnan by ABM, leaded by Rev J.R Morse and leader of Assembly of God Rev J.C Morrison basing the Rawan and Lisu tribe as initial. Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Orange and King Mandarin plus Maerica Lime were introduced by Father Robert Moss at that time. 

Location:

Located within 5-minute drive from Putao airport, in a shady park within walkable distance to major attractions such as market, environmental education center and local villages. 

Accommodation:


Bungalows are built identical to local homes in the region using locally available materials. All rooms come with attached bathroom, hot and cold shower. Rooms are secure, lockable with windows offering scenic view. An elegant lobby includes bar area, fire place, dining area and common area offers recreation and relaxation.

Day 01 : Arrival,Putao


Upon arrival at Putao airport we will be met by Trekking House’s representative and transferred to our lodge. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.  

Day 02  : Fairy Island and Excursion along upper Malikha River    

Early in the morning walk to Putao market often busy with local ethnic tribes. Return to hotel, breakfast and depart by jeep through the vast Putao plain on pebbled road to Naungkhine (20 km, one hour). Here we board on local fishermen boat for our downstream journey along Malikha River to so-called Fairy Island through beautiful wilderness surrounding having high reef with lush tropical forests. We return back to the jetty and cross beautiful suspension bridge to visit Machanbaw town and market. Lunch stop and we get on the jeep and travel along the Malikha river bank to Namkham (approx. 30 minute). Namkham, a large Rawan village, situates at the bottom of Namhti mountain range which in rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna. Name after Hkamti Shan name meaning “Golden River” has become the center of cultivation place for the fruits that Father Robert Moss has introduced thus to day famous for its sweet fruits production. Here we explore the village, social and cultural interaction with its friendly people and continue travel by jeep to the site of famous Kanugmulon Pagoda, said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. We spend some time at this peaceful environment and later drive back to Putao via a suspension bridge across Malikha River. (14 km, one hour). Dinner and overnight at Putao Lodge.

Day 03 : Departure


Breakfast and we explore around Putao with suggestion by our guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for our onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience.

Remark :

Although costing is based on minimum one person, Myanmar Hill Lodges reserves the right to combine to make decent group size due to shortage of trek leaders and support staff.
